But first, let's explain how candles burn and how to take care of your precious scented object.

How do scented candles work?

Lighting candles is nothing new and the skill of making them has endured. Here we will not tell you how a candle maker makes a candle, but how it works. So how do our Candle Made scented candles work?

When you light a candle with a match or lighter, a flame forms at the end of the wick. Once the melting point is reached, the heat from the flame melts the nearby soy wax. This melted wax will lift the wick by capillary action. And because of its fairly high temperature, the wax will vaporize and then burn at the level of the flame. It is therefore the wax that burns and maintains the flame of the candle. You can then enjoy the olfactory pleasure of a perfume without beeswax.

Now that you know how Candle Made candles work, here are our tips for use. This way, your candle will stay beautiful for as long as possible and won't go out too quickly. Endless warm moments belong to you!

Signs you are using scented candles correctly

Candle Made Healthy Scented Candle is a non-GMO vegetable wax that stays smooth and flat. Indeed, when you use a scented candle correctly, the wax will gradually and evenly descend into the container. Thus the candle will not be hollow and we will not lose material which will stick to the edge of the glass jar without burning.

Another sign that you are using a scented candle is that the wick is still in the center. This way the candle wax will melt evenly when lit.

Now that we have seen how to identify a well-used natural candle, we are going to give you all the tips so that you can recreate the same one at home.

Our tips for using scented candles

To ensure that your scented candles stay beautiful for as long as possible, here are some of our tips:

Burn candles between 1 and 2 a.m.

When you buy a Candle Made candle, we always recommend that you burn it for 1-2 hours. This is the time required for the entire surface of the vegetable wax present in the glass to liquefy. By making sure you have the first coat of liquid wax, you can allow it to flow evenly over time. This way you avoid digging a hole in the center of the candle, around the wick. Because when the candle is hollowed out this way (due to the short burn time), you lose burn time. Indeed, the natural wax being always stuck to the edge of the candle, the flame does not let it melt anymore (blasphemy!). Note that for our natural Apothecary candles with essential oils, we recommend a burning time of 1h30.

Put out the flame instead of blowing it out

If you extinguish the flame of the candle instead of blowing it out, it will emit less black smoke and soot. As mentioned above, this is when you need to refocus the wick. To extinguish a candle flame, you can use a candle extinguisher. This small device removes oxygen from the flame, which prevents the candle from burning. You can also place lids on candles or plates etc. Be careful not to use flammable materials to extinguish the flame (such as a piece of paper or cardboard)

Refocus the wick after turning it off

In fact, our wick moves sideways due to heat when it burns. If you light the wick without cutting it, one side of the candle will burn faster than the other. In addition to the aesthetic aspect, you risk losing combustion time, and that would be a shame! Therefore, we recommend that you always reposition the wick in the center of the candle after extinguishing the candle. You can use a toothpick or pen to avoid burning yourself. The idea is to do this before the scented wax has had time to cool.

Cut the wick before each use

Another very important tip: cut the wick of the candle before each use. Because first, when your candle burns, soot forms around the wick. It is for this reason that the wick of your candle will turn black after use. Trimming the wick before relighting the scented candle will prevent soot emission and a bright flame. You will also avoid bad smells of burning!

Light the candles 1 hour before delivery

To ensure optimal diffusion of the scent of the candle, we advise you to light the candle 1 hour before receiving it. Thus, the wax will have time to melt by capillary action and rise to the flame where the perfume will diffuse. Once lit, your scented candle will diffuse a fragrance in your room. Create a warm atmosphere and have a happy time.
